A surprising number of museums offer free admission, yet finding them often requires digging through local forums, old blog posts, or archived press releases. We created Free Museums Directory to surface this information in one trustworthy, beautifully presented place.
The catalog combines public cultural datasets, OpenStreetMap records, museum websites, and place-listing data. Those sources vary in quality, so records without enough identity or admission evidence stay outside the public search index while they await review.

How we work
- 1. Discover. Gather candidate venues from public cultural registries, OpenStreetMap, Wikidata, and place data.
- 2. Assess. Check entity identity, location, museum classification, supporting content, and whether an admission source is linked.
- 3. Source. Prefer the museum or operator's current admission page and record important conditions such as free days, age limits, or booking requirements.
- 4. Recheck. Keep uncertain records in a review backlog and invite visitors and operators to report changes with an official source.
